What is social media? Certainly a business buzz word, it can mean many things and be the source of excitement and confusion. Given that technology and the Web have opened many new doors to communicate directly with a target audience – and give them a way to respond and share your message readily with others – organizations are now looking at “social media” as a new domain that they need to participate in and master. In many cases, this simply means creating compelling content (i.e., YouTube videos, a Facebook page, or an online press release) that can be easily seen and shared. The hope is that over time the message will “go viral” at a significant cost advantage versus traditional marketing methods (i.e., advertising, events or direct mail).

There are many new ways to get your story to the people that need to see it and share it.
